The Hidden Gem Wineries Napa Native Took Us To

Our tour day started at 9:15 am when we were picked up at the Oxbow Market to head to our first tasting of the day. The itinerary was a packed day and included three wine tastings and a picnic lunch. We finished the tour and were dropped off at our location at 5 pm.

Stop #1: B Wise

Our first stop of the day was B Wise at Sleeping Lady Vineyards in Yountville. As soon as we turned onto the property, we were surrounded by rows of lush green vineyards, with beautiful views stretching across the estate.

The setting immediately felt special. We stepped out of the van to sweeping vineyard views, a garden oasis lined with palm trees, and a beautifully restored tasting room housed inside a historic bank barn dating back to 1861.

Inside, the property was filled with eclectic artwork and thoughtful details that gave it plenty of character.

One of the highlights of our visit was meeting winemaker Carlos and getting a behind-the-scenes look at the winery. We happened to visit on a bottling day and were able to watch a mobile bottling company in action—something I’d never seen before during a winery visit.

We also had the opportunity to taste a wine directly from the barrel that won’t be released for another year. It was such a unique experience and a fun way to compare a developing wine to the finished wines we tasted throughout the visit.

What I loved most about this tasting was that it felt intimate, educational, and incredibly authentic.

Stop #2: Napa Native Wine Tasting & Picnic Lunch

Our second stop of the day was at Napa Native, and it felt like stepping into the Napa Valley that most people imagine when they picture wine country.

Surrounded by rows of vineyards, olive trees, and a stunning mountain backdrop, the estate felt like a peaceful slice of paradise. It was the kind of place where you immediately want to slow down, soak in the scenery, and savor every moment.

We kicked off the experience with a saber toast—a first for me and such a fun way to start the tasting. From there, we explored the vineyards and learned more about the farming side of winemaking, which gave me an even greater appreciation for everything that goes into each bottle.

Our tasting was paired with a delicious picnic lunch overlooking the vineyards. The fresh salad topped with sheep’s milk feta and bee pollen completely blew my mind, and the wood-fired pizzas were the perfect complement to the wines.

What stood out most to me was the passion behind everything. From the vineyard and farming practices to the wines themselves, it was clear that every detail had been thoughtfully considered.

Between the incredible views, delicious food, and welcoming atmosphere, this was easily one of those places where I could have spent the entire afternoon.

Stop #3: The Caves at Soda Canyon

Our final stop of the day was a cave tasting at The Caves at Soda Canyon, a winery I’d wanted to visit for years.

From the moment we arrived, it felt like stepping onto a movie set. As the doors opened to reveal an underground winery carved directly into the hillside, I knew this would be a memorable experience.

Inside, the caves were cool and peaceful—a welcome escape from the Napa sunshine. We settled in for our tasting with cozy blankets and a thoughtfully curated snack plate while our host, Josh, guided us through the wines. From the moment we met him, Josh felt more like an old friend, making the experience feel relaxed and personal.

One of the things I loved most about this tasting was the opportunity to sample wines from several boutique and family-owned wineries rather than just a single producer. It felt like the perfect reflection of Napa Native’s mission to showcase the smaller brands and winemakers that make Napa Valley so special.

As iconic as the cave experience was, the real showstopper was the view from the terrace. On a clear day, you can see all the way to San Francisco, with panoramic views stretching across Napa Valley.
