7 Best Spots for Breakfast in Downtown Napa Before Wine Tasting

Breakfast in Downtown Napa is one of my favorite ways to start a morning in wine country.

One of the reasons I love it so much is the variety. Within just a few blocks, you can grab a buttery croissant and coffee from a local bakery, dig into a hearty breakfast before a day of wine tasting, or linger over brunch with friends. No matter what kind of morning you’re after, Downtown Napa has a spot for you.

I’ve visited Napa Valley dozens of times over the years. Living in The Bay Area means it’s an easy day trip for me, and I’ve also spent plenty of weekends staying right in Downtown Napa. Before heading to the wineries, I ALWAYS make time for breakfast.

After eating my way through downtown Napa’s cafés, bakeries, and brunch spots, these are the places I find myself recommending again and again. Whether you’re looking for the famous English muffins Oprah loves, an unforgettable breakfast sandwich, or a hidden gem that deserves more attention, here’s where to find the best breakfast in Downtown Napa.

🍷 Wine Gal Tip: And if you’re planning on visiting wineries in St. Helena, these are my top recommendations of breakfast spots to stop in before your first wine tasting of the day.

Most creative breakfast menu Grace’s Table

1. Contimo Provisions

Best breakfast sandwich in Downtown Napa

If you’re looking for a quick, casual breakfast before a day of wine tasting, Contimo Provisions is my top recommendation.

I ordered the sausage, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich, and I honestly haven’t stopped thinking about it since. The real star of the sandwich was the biscuit. It was buttery, incredibly flaky, and perfectly soft in the center. I genuinely think it’s the best biscuit I’ve ever had.

The sandwich itself was hearty enough to keep me full through a morning of wine tastings, making it the perfect way to start the day before your first reservation. Pair it with a coffee, and you’re set.

One of the things I love most about Contimo is that it doesn’t feel like you’re sacrificing quality for convenience. Service is quick, but everything still feels thoughtfully made. Whether you’re grabbing breakfast to go or taking your time over coffee, it’s an easy place to start your morning.

The location is another reason I find myself recommending it so often. It’s right in the heart of Downtown Napa, across from the Archer Hotel and next to Alpha Omega’s tasting room, making it an easy stop whether you’re staying downtown or just visiting for the day.

What to Order:

  • One of their classic breakfast biscuit sandwiches however way you like it!

Why You’ll LOVE it:

  • Great option before wine tasting
  • Casual atmosphere & quick service
  • Indoor and outdoor seating
  • Located across from the Archer Hotel

2. Loveski Deli

Best bagels in Downtown Napa

If you’re craving a really good bagel, Loveski should be at the top of your list.

Located inside the Oxbow Public Market, Loveski has built a loyal following for its handmade sourdough bagels, and after trying them myself, I completely understand why. The bagels are perfectly chewy with just the right amount of crispness on the outside, and they offer everything from classic cream cheese combinations to hearty breakfast sandwiches.

I ordered the Pastrami, Egg & Cheese, and it was packed with flavor. The pastrami was tender, the eggs were perfectly cooked, and the harissa mayo added just enough heat without overpowering the sandwich. It’s definitely a more filling breakfast if you have a full day of wine tasting ahead.

Even if you’re not in the mood for a sandwich, Loveski is worth visiting for the bagels alone. They also offer a gluten free option and a variety of unique cream cheese spreads.

One thing I especially love about stopping at Loveski, is that it’s also a deli, so you can pick up picnic supplies for a winery picnic for later in the day as well. I’ve tried their Turkey Cheddar sandwich, and their rye bread was soft and good!

What to Order

  • Pastrami, Egg & Cheese bagel (but it is a little spicy!)
  • Any of their handmade sourdough bagels with cream cheese

Why You’ll LOVE It:

  • Handmade sourdough bagels
  • Located inside Oxbow Public Market
  • Great option before wine tasting
  • Gluten free bagel available
  • Perfect stop for picnic provisions

3. Moulin Bakery

Best bakery and pastries in Downtown Napa

If I could only stop at one bakery in Downtown Napa, it would be Moulin.

This bakery came highly recommended by so many people, I had to check it out. After one morning there, I completely understood why.

Tucked away on a quiet side street, Moulin feels like one of those places you almost want to keep to yourself. It has a cozy neighborhood feel that’s a nice change of pace from some of the busier spots around Downtown Napa.

The coffee was so good that I actually looked where they sourced their beans because I wanted to buy them for home. That’s something I’ve never done before.

I also tried their yogurt parfait, which had fresh fruit, granola, and a hint of ginger that made it completely different from any parfait I’d had before. Of course, I couldn’t leave without trying one of their pastries. Their lemon verbena glaze was flaky, buttery, and filled with bright lemon flavor. It was one of those pastries where you keep taking “just one more bite” until suddenly it’s gone.

Even though there was a line when I visited, it moved quickly, and I was still able to grab a table outside.

If you can, take the time to slow down here with a great cup of coffee, enjoy breakfast, and ease into the day before heading to the wineries.

What to Order

  • lemon verbena glaze or any of their pastries!
  • A coffee (trust me)

Why You’ll LOVE It

  • Incredible pastries
  • Some of the best coffee in Downtown Napa (that I have come across)
  • Cozy local atmosphere
  • Outdoor seating
  • Worth the wait, even on busy mornings

4. Model Bakery

Most iconic breakfast in Napa Valley

If this is your first trip to Napa Valley, I think Model Bakery deserves a spot on your itinerary.

They’re best known for their English muffins after Oprah Winfrey included them on her list of Favorite Things, but honestly… Oprah was right.

Every time I visit Napa Valley, I make a stop at Model Bakery. Before heading home, I always buy a sleeve of their English muffins to take with me because they’re just that good.

They’re everything an English muffin should be. Buttery, light, perfectly crisp on the outside, and soft on the inside. I usually keep it simple with butter and jam, but they’re also delicious as a breakfast sandwich if you’re looking for something a little more filling before a day of wine tasting.

The Downtown Napa location is next to the Oxbow Public Market, making it an easy stop whether you’re grabbing breakfast before exploring Napa or picking up pastries to enjoy later.

What to Order

  • The famous English muffin with butter and jam
  • An English muffin breakfast sandwich
  • Fresh pastries

Why You’ll LOVE It:

  • Oprah’s famous English muffins
  • Perfect for first time visitors
  • Located next Oxbow Public Market
  • Great stop before wine tasting

5. Buttercream Bakery & Diner

Best affordable breakfast in Downtown Napa

If you’re looking for a hearty breakfast that won’t break the bank, Buttercream Bakery & Diner is the place to go.

It’s a little off the beaten path, but one of those longtime local favorites that people in Napa have been visiting for generations. It’s easy to spot thanks to its iconic pink and white striped building, and once you walk inside, you’ll understand why it’s been a staple for so many years.

I almost hesitate to include it because it feels like one of those places locals would rather keep to themselves.

The portions are generous, the prices are refreshingly reasonable (especially by Napa standards), and everything has that comforting, old school diner feel. Whether you’re craving pancakes, eggs, bacon, or one of their homemade pastries, you’ll leave full and ready for a day of wine tasting.

And don’t skip the doughnuts.

Their maple bar is a favorite, and if you happen to see the blueberry fritter, order it before they sell out. They’re worth taking a few extras back to your hotel.

What to Order

  • Fresh doughnuts (get them before the sell out)
  • A classic breakfast plate

Why You’ll LOVE It:

6. Celadon

Best brunch in Downtown Napa

If I’m planning a brunch with friends before a day in wine country, Celadon is where I’m making the reservation.

This is the kind of place that turns breakfast into part of the experience instead of just another meal before heading to the wineries. Whether you’re celebrating a birthday, enjoying a girls’ getaway, or a romantic weekend with your special someone, Celadon is the perfect option!

One of my favorite things about the restaurant is the entrance. As soon as you walk through the gates, you’re welcomed into a beautiful garden courtyard that almost makes you forget you’re in the middle of Downtown Napa. Inside, the atmosphere is warm and inviting, with a menu that combines classic brunch favorites with globally inspired flavors.

I visited with a group of friends for brunch, and every meal that came to the table looked incredible. We also did the mimosa bar, where you can pair different juices with one of their champagne bottles. And they have a bunch of fun brunch cocktails too!

After brunch, take a few minutes to walk along the Napa River before heading to your next stop. It’s one of my favorite ways to start a morning in Downtown Napa!

What to Order

  • One of their brunch specials
  • Coffee or do the mimosa bar (or BOTH)

Why You’ll LOVE It

  • Beautiful courtyard entrance
  • Great for groups
  • Relaxed brunch atmosphere
  • Walking distance to the Napa River
  • Perfect before an afternoon wine tasting

7. Grace’s Table

Most creative breakfast & brunch menu in Downtown Napa

If you love a menu with plenty of variety, Grace’s Table is a favorite breakfast spot in Downtown Napa for so many reasons.

What I love most about their menu is that they don’t make you choose between classic breakfast favorites and something a little more adventurous. You can order fluffy buttermilk pancakes dusted with powdered sugar, or branch out with dishes like pulled pork and egg tacos, flavorful chilaquiles, or shrimp and grits.

It’s the kind of menu where everyone can find something they’ll be excited to order.

One thing you absolutely shouldn’t skip is the iron skillet cornbread with lavender honey butter. Order it for the table to share. It arrives warm in a cast iron skillet, and the lavender honey butter is honestly drool-worthy.

If you’re visiting on a warm spring or summer morning, the outdoor patio is the perfect place to enjoy breakfast before heading to the wineries.

What to Order

  • Iron skillet cornbread with lavender honey butter

Why You’ll LOVE It

  • Creative menu with something for everyone
  • Fresh, beautifully presented dishes
  • Great outdoor patio
  • Perfect for a sit down leisurely breakfast or brunch

Tips for Eating Breakfast in Downtown Napa

After plenty of mornings spent exploring Downtown Napa, here are a few tips that will make your breakfast experience even better.

Eat Breakfast Before Wine Tasting

One of the easiest ways to set yourself up for a great day in Napa Valley is to start with a good breakfast.

It might be tempting to head straight to your first winery, but trust me, don’t start a day of wine tasting on an empty stomach. Even if you only have one or two tastings planned, you’ll enjoy the experience so much more after a delicious breakfast.

If You’re Visiting on a Busy Weekend

Weekends in Downtown Napa can get busy, especially during the summer and harvest season. If you have an early wine tasting reservation or a packed itinerary, I recommend ordering breakfast ahead whenever possible, so your breakfast will be ready when you arrive.

You’ll spend less time waiting in line and more time enjoying your meal, or getting to your first winery on time.

Walking is One of the Best Ways to Explore Downtown Napa

One of the things I love most about downtown Napa is how walkable it is. Most of the restaurants on this list are within the heart of downtown (except for Buttercream), so you can easily grab breakfast, browse the local shops, and stroll along the Napa River for a quiet morning walk before heading to your first wine tasting.

Plan the Perfect Day in Napa Valley

These are the downtown Napa breakfast spots I find myself coming back to time and time again. Whether I’m grabbing a quick breakfast sandwich before my first winery, lingering over coffee and pastries, or meeting friends for a leisurely brunch, each of these restaurants offers something a little different, and you really can’t go wrong with any of them.

After breakfast, it’s time for one of the best parts of the day: exploring Napa Valley’s incredible wineries. Before you head out, make sure you have a transportation plan. Whether you’re hiring a private driver, booking a wine tour, or using a designated driver service, planning ahead makes for a much more relaxing (and safer) day in wine country.

One of my favorite ways to experience Napa Valley is with Napa Native. Their personalized private tours take you beyond the well-known wineries to discover hidden gems, and they handle all the planning and driving so you can simply enjoy the experience.
