After planning multiple trips (both for myself and for friends visiting Napa for the first time), I’ve found that choosing the perfect romantic hotel in Napa Valley really comes down to three things:

1. Your budget (and what kind of experience you want)

Hotels in Napa Valley aren’t cheap — most stays start around $300 per night and can easily climb to $1,000+ for luxury resorts.

But in my experience, spending more doesn’t always equal a more romantic stay.

Some of my favorite trips have actually been at smaller boutique hotels that felt quieter and more intimate, compared to larger resorts that can feel busy and less personal.

2. Where you stay matters more than you think

Napa Valley is made up of four main areas: Napa, Yountville, St. Helena, and Calistoga — and each one offers a completely different vibe.

For a first visit, I almost always recommend staying in Downtown Napa or Yountville. They’re more walkable, have great restaurants nearby, offer more romantic things to do nearby, and make planning your days so much easier.

St. Helena and Calistoga are beautiful, but they’re better if you’re looking for something slower-paced.
