A Little Bit About Tres Sabores

Tres Sabores Winery is located at Napa Valley’s Rutherford Bench, along the west side of Route 29.

The name “Tres Sabores,” meaning “three flavors,” reflects their philosophy of capturing the taste of the vine, the terroir, and the joy of shared company in every glass.

As one of the first California Certified Organic vineyards in Northern California, Tres Sabores has embraced organic and largely dry farming for nearly 30 years.

The ranch also grows olives, pomegranates, meyer lemons, and is home to animals like Golden Retrievers, Guinea fowl, and sheep.

However, at the heart of Tres Sabores is owner and winemaker Julie Johnson, who lives on the farm and infuses her passion into every bottle.

The Lowdown On The Wine – What to Expect

The wine was outstanding, and the tasting experience felt well-rounded and thoughtfully curated. We sampled five of their current releases, each distinctly unique, which I really enjoyed.

Tres Sabores Winery produces a mix of Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, and Petit Verdot. So I was very excited to try their reds, I knew they would impress. However, the real surprise came with the first two wines we tasted, their Rosé and Sauvignon Blanc.

Both were crisp and refreshing with perfect acidity. The Sauvignon Blanc had delicious tropical fruit notes, while the Rosé was light and fruity without being overly sweet

Next up was the St Laurent, an interesting varietal. It’s low in alcohol, making it a fantastic alternative to white wine, and pairs nicely with spicy dishes. Tres Sabores is one of only three wineries in Napa Valley that uses this unique grape.

We then tried their California red blend, Por Qué No?—a wine with a playful backstory and a perfect choice for any occasion. It was so enjoyable that we couldn’t resist taking home two bottles—because, why not?

Finally, my favorite, the Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. This classic medium-bodied Cab is smooth and well-balanced, with notes of dark fruits and cedar. We couldn’t leave without a bottle of this one, too. It’s an excellent choice for aging if you want to save it for a special occasion.

The Wine Tasting Experiences At Tres Sabores Winery

The estate grounds are absolutely stunning. Upon arrival, you’ll find charming picnic benches shaded by beautiful olive grove trees, with a picturesque view of a valley of lush vineyards.

Our tasting took place on a quaint dirt patio tucked away amongst the vines. It felt very intimate and authentic.

Tres Sabores also offers a variety of food options. You can bring your own picnic for a small fee, have them arrange lunch for you, or enjoy a yummy cheese and charcuterie platter if you’re in the mood for a snack.

🍷 Napa Valley Pro Tip: A lot of other wineries do not offer food or allow you to picnic, so it could be a great idea to book your reservation around lunchtime.

The tasting experience is laid-back and relaxing, lasting around 90 minutes. You’ll have the chance to sample five of their current releases.

The cost is $60 per tasting, but the fee is waived if you purchase four bottles of wine, exactly what we did. It’s a win-win!

My Overall Thoughts on Tres Sabores

Tres Sabores ticks all the right boxes when it comes to creating an unforgettable wine tasting experience. They offer a range of unique touches that you won’t find at larger, more commercial wineries.

Such as being a woman-owned winery, certified organic, kid and dog friendly, picnic and food options available, and a good price for Napa Valley. Lastly, you won’t feel rushed here, you can savor the excellent wines and enjoy the beautiful wine country views at your own pace.

From the moment we arrived with our two little ones (both under 2), we felt warmly welcomed. The staff went above and beyond, giving my son coloring materials, bubbles, and even letting us go to the barn to meet the animals.

Tres Sabores Winery is a gem of a place in Napa Valley! If you’re seeking tremendous wine, laid-back vibes, and picturesque wine-country views, Tres Sabores is an absolute must-visit!
