5 Must-Visit St. Helena Breakfast Spots in Napa Valley

I know how overwhelming restaurant recommendations in Napa Valley can be. After dozens of trips, I’ve narrowed it down to my five must-visit St. Helena breakfast spots, the ones I’d add to your bucket list if you’re only visiting once.

If you’re visiting Napa Valley for the first time, one of the biggest mistakes you can make is skipping breakfast before a day of wine tasting. I’ve learned this the hard way — rushing through breakfast (or skipping it entirely) is a fast track to an empty stomach and one too many sips of red wine.

While Yountville may be Napa’s official foodie capital, I personally keep coming back to St. Helena. It’s charming, walkable, and home to some of the best breakfasts in Napa Valley.

Whether you’re looking for a quick grab-and-go before a morning tasting or a relaxed sit-down meal before heading out of town, these are the St. Helena breakfast spots I recommend to friends visiting Napa for the first time — and the ones I plan my own mornings around.

Best St. Helena Breakfast Spots for Wine Tasting Days

These are the St. Helena breakfast spots I return to again and again — especially on wine tasting days. Whether I’m staying in town or stopping in before a morning of tastings at nearby wineries, these are the places that reliably deliver a great start to the day.

And if you’re planning a full day of wine tasting, don’t forget to think about transportation ahead of time. Whether you use Uber, hire a private driver, or book a guided wine tour, having a plan makes the day so much more relaxing.

A top pick of mine for a Napa Valley tour is Napa Native, a local company that takes you to hidden gem wineries with a fully personalized private tour. They handle all the driving and planning so you can just enjoy the day.

✅ Want a more authentic Napa Valley experience? I highly recommend Napa Native for curated wine tours, boutique wineries, and personalized itineraries — perfect if you want a stress-free Napa trip.

Inside the cozy Model Bakery in St. Helena, known for its famous English muffins.

1. Model Bakery

If I’m in Napa Valley, Model Bakery is a non-negotiable stop, especially in the morning. Their English muffins are famous for a reason: buttery, fluffy, and best warm, smeared in jam. I’ll usually even grab a pack to take home to eat that week, or they freeze surprisingly well.

If this is your first time visiting St. Helena, this is one of the easiest breakfast wins. It’s perfect when you want something quick but still memorable before heading to a morning tasting. Their English muffins have even been featured on Oprah’s Favorite Things multiple times, most recently in 2025 — but honestly, I’d be lining up even without the hype.

Beyond the muffins, they offer a full breakfast and lunch menu. They have multiple locations, but the St. Helena location on Main Street is my favorite. It’s their flagship, with indoor seating if you want to slow down a bit and actually sit before starting your day.

🌟 Best for: Quick, iconic breakfast before wine tasting
What to order: English muffin with jam (don’t overthink it)

2. Gillwoods Cafe

If you’re craving a classic sit-down breakfast before a day of wine tasting, Gillwoods Cafe is the spot. This is where to go when you want a hearty, no-frills meal that actually keeps you full until the afternoon.

Located right on Main Street in St. Helena, Gillwoods has that small-town diner feel, but with consistently good food made from fresh Napa Valley ingredients. The menu leans traditional in the best way, with steak and eggs, biscuits and gravy, waffles, pancakes, and French toast. The kind of breakfast that pairs well with a long day of tastings ahead.

This is one of those places where locals actually eat, and it’s especially great if you’re starting your day hungry or want a relaxed, unhurried breakfast before hitting the road.

🌟 Best for: A filling, sit-down breakfast before wine tasting
What to order: Steak and eggs or biscuits and gravy if you want something substantial

    3. Under Study

Under Study had been on my St. Helena bucket list for a long time, and after finally visiting, I can confidently say it lived up to the hype. This chic café comes from the team behind the Michelin-starred Press, so I went in with high expectations, and they didn’t disappoint.

The space is stylish but approachable, with a beautifully curated pastry case that almost feels too pretty to touch. The breakfast menu leans classic, but everything has an upscale Napa twist. Only in Napa can you add caviar to your hash browns or order a buttery lobster omelet.

When I visited, I ordered one of their specialty lattes, a chocolate chip cookie, and one of the “bougie” lunch boxes, and every bite was spot on. One of the best perks? You get to enjoy your meal on Press’s outdoor patio. They have warmers set up next to the tables and a cozy fireplace.

🌟 Best for: A unique and elevated breakfast (they stop serving breakfast at 11 am)
What to order: Specialty latte + pastry, or go all out with the lobster omelet

    4. Station St. Helena

If you want a quick but high-quality breakfast in St. Helena, Station is one of those places you might miss if you didn’t know to look for it, and that’s part of the charm. Tucked inside a vintage gas station right at the edge of Main Street, it’s a true local favorite.

Despite the casual setting, this is far from a basic stop. Station serves excellent coffee, fresh pastries, smoothies, and breakfast sandwiches that are perfect if you’re grabbing something before a morning tasting. There’s also a covered outdoor patio with picnic tables, which makes it an easy place to sit and eat without committing to a full sit-down meal.

It’s also worth keeping in mind for later in the day, since they offer sandwiches and New York–style pizza by the slice if you’re looping back through town for lunch.

🌟 Best for: Grab-and-go breakfast or a casual coffee stop
What to order: Breakfast sandwich and coffee, or a pastry if you’re keeping it light

    5. Auberge du Soleil Restaurant

Auberge du Soleil isn’t your everyday breakfast stop, and that’s exactly why it earns a place on this list. Perched above the valley, this Michelin-starred restaurant offers one of the most iconic views in Napa Valley, with sweeping vistas over the vineyards and the Mayacamas Mountains.

This is the breakfast (or brunch) I’d save for a special occasion or a slower morning when you want to make the meal part of the experience. Auberge only offers weekend brunch on Saturdays and Sundays from 11:30am to 2:15pm, so it’s not a spontaneous stop, but if you plan ahead, it can easily become one of the most memorable meals of your trip.

If you’re celebrating something or want a true “wow” moment before heading home, this is the kind of place that feels like a final Napa Valley exhale.

🌟 Best for: A special occasion brunch with a view
Good to know: Weekend brunch only, reservations needed, located in Rutherford, a 10 minute drive from St. Helena

Start Your Napa Valley Morning Right

I hope this guide helps you find the perfect breakfast spot before heading out to explore Napa Valley. Whether you’re grabbing a quick pastry and coffee or sitting down for a leisurely brunch, starting your day with a good meal makes every winery stop that much more enjoyable.

When I plan a day in Napa Valley, I always choose my wineries first and then build meals around them. It makes it much easier to map out your route and avoid unnecessary driving between tasting appointments.

If you’re still deciding which wineries deserve a spot on your itinerary, I’ve rounded up my favorite wineries that allow a picnic lunch (one of the most underrated things to do in Napa Valley) to help you plan an unforgettable day in wine country.
