As a Bay Area local who’s visited Napa dozens of times, I’ve been there, shocked by the jaw-dropping prices.

And here’s a bonus, you can score even more savings with the Priority Wine Pass that includes discounts at gorgeous spots like the Harvest Inn, where you can wake up to vineyard views for a fraction of the typical price.

Where to Stay in Napa Valley on a Budget
From someone who has been to Napa Valley many times, I can confidently tell you that Napa doesn’t have to be outrageously expensive, and you don’t need to book the ultra luxurious hotel to have an incredible stay in wine country.
There are five main towns in Napa Valley: Downtown Napa, Yountville, St. Helena, Calistoga, and American Canyon. Each town has its own unique vibe and charm.
For ease of this guide, I have broken up the hotels by location and what you can expect from a stay in each Napa town.

Downtown Napa
Downtown Napa is a great home base for first-time visitors, offering more affordable accommodations than some of the other towns. It’s packed with tasting rooms, boutique shops, cafes, and top-notch restaurants, all within walking distance.
It’s the only town with a real nightlife (by wine country standards). And don’t miss the Oxbow Market, a lively food hall featuring Hog Island Oysters, delicious pizza, fresh sandwiches, the best hot dog you may ever have, and tasty cupcakes.

1. Andaz Napa Valley
Highlights: Mid Range Stay • Great Location • Dog Friendly • Book It ✅
One of my top choices for hotels in downtown Napa (Archer is my #1 pick, but Andaz is a close second). Located in the heart of downtown Napa, footsteps from many restaurants, tasting rooms, and shops.

Yountville is Napa Valley’s culinary hotspot, known for its world-class restaurants, luxury hotels, tasting rooms, and art scene. If you are a foodie, Yountville is the place to be.
It is home to Michelin-starred restaurants like the famous French Laundry, Bouchon, Ciccio, and Ad Hoc, along with so many other outstanding options.
Stroll The Yountville Art Walk, a free self guided collection of outdoor sculptures in downtown Yountville.
Centrally located, Yountville is the perfect town for exploring and wine tasting in Napa Valley. However, lodging here is typically on the higher end, with very few budget to moderately priced options available.
5. SENZA Hotel
Highlights: Mid Range Stay • Vineyard Views • Pool • Dog Friendly • Book It ✅
Located smack dab in the middle between downtown Napa and Yountville nestled in a lush vineyard. I love to recommend SENZA because it offers a boutique luxury stay at an incredible value. If you can book a vineyard room, it is worth it!
✔️ Small boutique hotel, where most rooms are newly renovated and all are modernized, with some suites featuring private patios or balconies, vineyard views, fireplaces, and high ceilings.
✔️ $40 daily breakfast credit to dine at the on-site restaurant.

Can’t get a better location than the Napa Valley Railway Inn. It’s centrally located in Yountville, within walking distance of restaurants, tasting rooms, and shops. And major bonus: the inn is attached to the Mini Model Bakery, a must-visit for their famous English muffins
✔️ Unique stay in converted 100-year-old train cars—each room is your own modernized rail car

✔️ Small “patio” area outside each guest room
❌ Con: Weekends require a 2-night minimum. It’s pricey for what you get and lacks extra amenities, but still the most affordable option in Yountville

St. Helena
The town of St. Helena is your quintessential wine country town with cobblestone sidewalks, charming boutiques, exceptional restaurants, and where you can find some of the region’s most iconic wineries.
St. Helena offers a relaxing and quiet stay in the heart of Napa Valley. A stroll along Main Street is a must to browse the shops and grab breakfast from the original Model Bakery, the best English Muffin in town. It’s so good, we usually buy a pack to bring home and freeze them to enjoy later.

Calistoga
Calistoga is the laid back less touristy town in Napa, famously known for its hot springs and volcanic mud baths. Visit downtown Calistoga to browse the local shops, go thrifting, or visit the free Sharpsteen Museum. Explore the outdoors on nearby hikes like the Petrified Forest and Bothe Napa Valley State Park.
Unwind with a mud bath, mineral bath, and cool down at Golden Haven Spa. They offer friends and couple specials on their spa packages.
Similar to downtown Napa, you will find more affordable options for stay in Calistoga. The only trade-off is its location, Calistoga is the northernmost town in Napa Valley, making it the furthest from San Francisco, so expect a bit more driving if you stay here.
10. Inn on Pine

American Canyon
If you’re searching for the most budget-friendly lodging in Napa Valley, look no further than American Canyon. This often-overlooked town sits at the southern edge of the valley and is home to several well-known chain hotels that offer affordable rates, even during peak season.
American Canyon is the lesser known and traveled Napa town because of its location and it’s a bit of a drive from many of the wineries and restaurants. It is more afforadble, but the downside is that you’ll most likely spend more time in the car, which may not be ideal for everyone.
It is a great location if you are traveling with your kids. There are numerous parks and the American Canyon Wetlands to explore. Also, Six Flags theme park is nearby as well.
13. Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites
Highlights: Budget Friendly • Breakfast Included • Pool • Dog Friendly • Book It ✅

✔️ Family-friendly and pet-friendly
❌ Con: While it’s more affordable, the hotel is located in American Canyon, which means you’ll likely spend more time driving to central Napa and surrounding wineries.

Ways to Save with Stay in Napa Valley
For a more affordable stay in Napa Valley, here are my best tips to find discounts and the best rates on accommodations.
Priority Wine Pass Discount on Hotels
The Priority Wine Pass offers a 20% discount on hotel rates at some really great hotels (ones that I would recommend even without the discount). That is a HUGE saving, especially since the Priority Wine Pass is only $49 with my coupon.
The pass also gets you savings with their 2 for 1 tastings at participating wineries and small discounts on some experiences such as with the Napa Valley Wine Train, an Hot Air Balloon Ride, and bike tours.

Book Your Hotel With Points
If you’re a Marriott or Hyatt member, consider booking the Marriott near downtown Napa or Hyatt properties like Andaz and Alila. You can also use credit card points—Chase, for example, lets you transfer points to hotel partners like Marriott, Hyatt, and IHG for even better value than booking through the Chase portal.
Visit Midweek
If you’re flexible with your travel dates, I highly recommend planning your Napa trip midweek. Hotels are usually much cheaper and do not require a minimum night stay.
Stay at a Hotel That Offers Perks
Book a hotel that includes breakfast everyday or offers complimentary tastings at the wineries.

Plan Your Trip in the Offseason
Visit Napa in the off-season for better deals, spring is my favorite, but winter (December to February, excluding holidays) offers the lowest hotel rates. November is also a great time to save, right after the harvest season ends. Summer months through October is the most expensive time to visit Napa.
Book Your Lodging in Advance
Book your accommodations as soon as you can. Many hotels, will offer up to a 20% discount if you book in advance.
Book an AirBnb or VRBO for Large Groups
Finding a shared home in Napa Valley can be tough. Napa County has strict regulations on vacation rentals, so limited availability, and the good affordable ones go fast.
Most likely you will end up paying a similar amount to what you would spend on a moderately priced hotel. However, if you have a kitchen and buy groceries, you can save some money on not eating out for every meal.
